Problem
After the Yellow and Roadway combination, YRC Worldwide ran overlapping software, infrastructure and data centers. That made more than 150 logistics applications hard to support reliably.
What I did
- Segmented the application portfolio by category
- Compared the platforms in each category on support history, availability and the in-house expertise needed for future development
- Selected the best-fit platform in each category
- Combined people from retired and selected applications onto one team so no knowledge was lost
- Led user migrations to the standardized environment while coordinating the wider data-center integration
Result
- One data center eliminated
- Application operating costs −40%
- Employee support costs −40%
A simpler stack and a clear network sharply improved stability across the logistics applications, and the combined team stayed on for ongoing support and development.
